Backstroke

The backstroke was a leizure stroke, it was never used in a competition because it was slow. When it was made an official stroke, the only rule was to stay on your back. The stroke has since to resemble freestyle, but on your back. It also has the same speed as the butterfly, surprisingly making it second in speed to freestyle.

Start off by floating on your back, outstretch one arm, enter the water at a point directly over the shoulder. The legs are kicked upwards and downwards in the flutter kick.

The left arm sinks downwards as the pull begins and while the right arm starts, its recovery directly upwards. The legs move up and down in the water.
backstroke stroke 2

Always keep your face above the water. The elbow of the pulling arm continues to bend as it pulled backward and downward. The recovery arm recovers directly upwards, while the legs continue their flattering kick.
backstroke stroke 3

The pull ends with the palms pressing water towards the bottom of the pool, while the recovery arm enters the water in a line directly over the shoulder.
